The Artist Poster

Hollywood 1927. Silent movie matinee idol George Valentin (Jean Dujardin, the charismatic star of OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies) is enjoying the good life, although he seems fonder of his faithful dog than of his trophy wife (Penelope Ann Miller). He meets funny, sexy young extra Peppy Miller (Bérénice Bejo), a dancer set for a big break, and sparks fly. With the advent of the talkies George's career nosedives, while Peppy's takes off. The Artist is the charming and poignant story of their interlinked destinies—a delightful valentine to the love of cinema, with a tip of the hat to Singin' in the Rain and A Star Is Born. Writer/director Michel Hazanavicius (who also directed the OSS 117 films) daringly shot the film completely in the style of a silent feature, in black and white and without sound (with a few striking exceptions), filmed on location in Hollywood, set to a wonderful original score by Ludovic Bource. Winner of the Best Actor Award (Dujardin) at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. Co-starring John Goodman, Malcolm McDowell, and James Cromwell.

THE ARTIST opens theatrically on Friday, December 23--check local listing for theatre and show times.

The Chicken and the Gun

Special Screening: Sunday, December 11 at 6:30pm

THE CHICKEN AND THE GUN is a narrative feature based on the Award Winning Documentary THE MAKING OF A LESSER MAN (2005 New York International Independent Film & Video Festival) by Minneapolis Filmmaker Neba Ambe.
The CHicken and the Gun Image
When John received a letter from his uncle in Karifa seeking support to fight off a government attack on his home town, he thought it would be a good idea to do the most American thing in response; organize a protest march against the Karifan and French Embassies in Washington DC.

His Friends knew it was a very bad idea to go against powers that have forced so many of his country men and women to seek homes in foreign lands. It did not take long for the governments of Karifa and France to respond. By the time John knew that he was not being ignored in safe America, the campaign against him had penetrated into his inner circle and turned his best friend into his worst enemy. The only fight left for him was understanding what had happened and how to survive a situation where friends and foes saw him as the problem.

Darkly beautiful.” - Cyn Collins, City Pages

INNI is Sigur Rós’ second live film following 2007′s hugely-celebrated HEIMA. Whereas that film positioned the enigmatic group in the context of their Icelandic homeland, providing geographical, social, and historical perspectives on their otherworldly music, with uplifting results, INNI focuses purely on the band’s performance, which is artfully and intimately captured by French-Canadian director Vincent Morisset (Arcade Fire’s MIROIR NOIR).

If the performances by this standout cast featuring Sam Rosen, Zoe Lister-Jones, Michael Imperioli and Josh Hartnett weren't so superb, it could easily be argued that the strikingly gorgeous Minneapolis skyline deserves top billing in this indie feature from first-time director Brady Kiernan.
